A first music class, after school
For kids who've outgrown the youngest room but aren't ready to sit down with one instrument yet - a small after-school class that builds the foundation every instrument is built on.
The bridge between playtime and an instrument
By four, five, and six, kids are ready for more than a sing-along - but a full private lesson on a single instrument is often a bigger commitment than a young beginner needs. Youth Group is the step in between: a real class, in a group, that builds musicianship through singing, movement, instruments, drawing, and pattern games, and gets kids playing together rather than sitting still.
The point isn't to pick an instrument yet. It's to build the framework - rhythm, notes, scales, and reading - that makes the eventual first instrument come faster, whether that ends up being piano, guitar, drums, or something like trumpet or cello later on.
What they'll start to do
As they move through the class, most kids begin to:
- Keep basic 4/4 and 3/4 rhythm patterns
- Recognize the notes in music - working toward all twelve
- Read basic musical notation
- Tell common scales apart, and hear major vs. minor
- Understand basic treble and bass ideas
- Keep rhythm and play scales with the instructor and other kids
- Sing and play fun, iconic songs
- Begin getting hands on a few common instruments
Why after school, and why small
Youth Group runs after school so it fits families whose kids are in class during the day. And it stays small on purpose - capped at four - so every child gets real hands-on time each week and nobody hides in the back. As a class fills, sessions stretch from 30 minutes to 45 to match what the group can handle.
Getting started
We run Youth Group after school, and we're glad to add times as interest grows. Book a consultation and we'll get your child into a class - or, if the current time doesn't work, tell us and we'll look at opening one that does.
Ready when they are
See open class times and enroll online - or book a consultation first if you'd like to talk it through.
